We in India have a very nasty habit in trying to fit into which ever space we find empty, vacant, irrespective of the inconvenience it may cause to thousand others. This is seen in our behavior while walking , driving, etc. The best part is the degree of impatience shown as if the world was coming to an end and that if you don't squeeze through its the D-day for you.
I was driving down the city road recently and the road ahead was narrowed down to a single lane due to some Municipal corporation road works.( That the detour signs etc don't exist is a different issue all together and even if they did ,using them appropriately is another one)seeing the traffic ahead slowing down you tend to keep the lane that is moving. This is the start of the catastrophe.Every Indian on the road wants to get into that slot at the same time and they HONK your ears of with deafening decibels of musical horns. Then come the 2 wheelers who given a chance would get on to the pavement, or the median and clamber across, the cars big and small pushing their nose in to sniff of the piddly 2 wheelers or smaller cars and shove them out .The net resultant a big standstill.
Now comes the best part, all the guys see the long queue and a few enthusiastic guys step out of their cars (no one else is in it) walk across to see what happened?
Others keep their Ac and music on and start using cellphones to make the most of the opportunity. The remaining are trying to weave a net around this mess by making way through any gap visible or even to the extent of going on to the wrong side.
In case in this chaos you do tend to scrape against another vehicle you might end up in a brawl that adds to the mess( irrespective of whether you are right or wrong) or else get a sheepish grin or smile without a sorry which is very rare.
To get out of your vehicle and start a fight is the single most popular sport that exists in India. If it means holding up a highway too!!!!
The COPS Where are they at such times? Well!!! You would possibly see him lost in this whole mess or blowing his whistle at everybody or anybody who might listen to him.If he is traffic volunteer then .............God bless!!!!!!Batons don't exist and for any cop vehicle to get there is a miracle unless airdropped:))
