Life can bring about the best and the worst of surprises packaged in one.Especially when you are headhunting and are looking out for quality talent in a non metro town, its a mega challenge.And if you are in Gujarat, then of course its like finding a needle in a haystack.
I did go about this many a times and then spread my search across to attract good talent into my city.Boy , was I delighted when I came across this packet, packed with potential, surprisingly less educated but some one with high degree of enthusiasm, initiative,and drive with age on his side as well.He joined and clicked from the word go.He established himself so well in just a month that i was grateful to almighty for that find.
Then came the bomb.This person , i noticed was perennially hungry and one day ,I saw him demolishing some fries and chips just post lunch.I casually stated that ,that was not a good sign and why not get himself checked up to confirm that all is well with his blood sugar and health in general.A week later he came up to me with a face that was probably struck by a bolt from the blue.He had been diagnosed with diabetes and that too pretty high.No tell tale signs.He has been working out and enjoying life till this day , and aged just 26 years,with a bright future in now reeling in shock.He doesn't know when he contacted it and just a few days back has been diagnosed with a retina detachment.I pray to god to give him that opportunity to get back to good shape and get back to good shape, for his own personal well being.
Please , a humble plea to all those couch potatoes and junk food fans.Exercise caution and don't be so careless that you knowingly commit"KAMIKAZE".

crabs
There is a saying 'Indian crab mentality" which states that if crabs are put in a glass container, they will all clamor and not allow any one to scale up the wall.If someone tries, the others pull it down.This happens in India and also abroad to some extent varying in degrees, from place to place, in the professional circuit.
Try asking a colleague to teach her job profile to some one else , just to create a backup and you will find such a high degree of insecurity coming out of no where.I wonder, what makes them so insecure?How will they ever grow?If you give more , you will get more.Nothing in the world cannot be learnt.No one was born knowing everything.Everyone has to learn and the skill sets may vary, but every one can do what the best are doing today.The sheer fright that if i teach someone my job, will i be sacked?Will i lose my importance?Oh! For heaven's sake,please.Stop this nonsense.
As a leader, mentor, guide one has to teach and pass on his knowledge to the next so that all can grow.Everyday one has plenty of opportunity to learn.Then why not open up the closed window of your mind and drive out those fears.If someone is growing faster than you, appreciate the same and learn what better could you do and how and what you could learn from him or her.By being an obstacle, trying to pull the others down, remember you will sink into a marsh and gets sucked so deep that you will be out of sight.Stop Crabbing and learn to share, support and encourage.

The advantage of working with youngsters is supreme.The generations that are coming up in the current professional circuits have so much of latent potential , that with a little bit of matured hand holding and resolve you can create miracles.
They are aggressive, which has to be toned down to assertive behaviors.They are high on energy and should be a great ruboff to the sagging potential of the senior Management, who some time feel challenged.The intellect is also sharp and intuitive and being more demanding make you alert and keep you on your toes.This part is what i like because one has to utilize your entire experience and ability to maneuver through the odds when it is time to challenge the wits of people who have high academic qualifications and who have graduated from premier Business management Institutes.They are open to debate , if allowed by the balding ,grey haired bosses.The transparency, if allowed to prevail in the organization, would certainly benefit them.New ideas, out of the box thinking,enthusiasm that gets dampened because of lack of support or delegation to this younger lot is the biggest setback to any organization.

Bipin basics
During my career what i could gather in terms of man management were a few simple tips and tricks which i thought i could share with you .Maybe you may have more ideas and thoughts to share.I don't know what they teach at Howard, or what management gurus tell.This is purely experiential learning.
Clear, simple, communication in the language your team,colleagues understand is the most critical part.Check how each one, at least one level below, has interpreted that and then how it percolates down the line in the same tone.
Listen,observe,be aware constantly about the surroundings and step out of your ivory towers if you are in the senior management and get across to the people on a one to one in a random audit.The connect you establish as a hands on person goes a long way and the respect you generate is phenomenal.Given a chance have lunch or a cup of tea with the level 1,2 people and ask them about some new ideas.It works.
Never cluster many ladies together in a small zone, they end up creating a gossip station.With due respect to them,the harsh realities have to be accepted.Men around too get distracted and then involved in unwanted , non productive issues, thus losing out on productive time.
Set the context first and the time lines which one has to drill into the minds of many Indians who don't respect others time and neither value theirs.So, start fining them for late turn ups at meetings,and collect the same in front of the entire team, make one person responsible to account for it and then donate the proceeds to charity.Don't forget to penalize yourself as well in case you turn up late and lead the pack.
Sharing motivational messages through mail, sms or as a thought for the day with the team every day makes them start up and look forward to it.The same time you can insert the main key message you want them to do for the day which gets accepted better.
IN event of a conflict resolution amongst colleagues, call them in your office, make them sit in front of you along with the immediate superior and demonstrate how they should resolve the same with maturity and commonsense, which as i mentioned is uncommon.
Set a vision and mission and follow it to the "T".Again simple messages and easy to understand and those that can be adapted with a stretch.
Create a culture of mutual respect and admiration for all colleagues for what they are and encourage them to take decision and lead from the front ,assuring them full support even if they make an erroneous judgement.You must have a plan B ready in advance, just in case , being the ultimate boss.
Don't panic, the world doesn't come to an end and no one is indispensable including you.
Delegate, review and make experiential learning a part of every day life.
Take initiative,be proactive and roll your sleeves if it comes to that to demonstrate you lead from the front.
Watch the people who drain out the resources and don't hesitate to take tough calls.Earlier the better.Excess baggage is never welcome anyway.Business is not charity 100%.
Be passionate about what you do, compare yourself with yourself and get out of the rat race,own your role and drive 4x4.(24X7, 365 DAYS with ample breaks to recharge your personal and professional front)
Coach, mentor, guide and share all that you have without a hitch.You will always gain.

lead role
The comment passed by Greg chappell that ' India cannot produce leader quality material" in cricket, is to quite an extent true.
Most of us in the professional circuit, or the sports arena always seem to be lost and grope around for some one who they can bank on or is ready to lend his shoulder for some one else to fire the gun.Qualities like Decision making, team building,determination, positive attitude,leading by example,go getters,courageous and spirited,and last but not least, those who inspire are leaders.We struggle to decide even if we are asked 'aap kya khaoge"?Anything is the reply.The question was " what would you like to eat and anything is certainly not a dish on the menu.From such trivial things to life saving decisions, we ,barring a few exceptions lack that killer instinct.Lets admit.In cricket we get a Dhoni, we have Dhirubhai Ambani ,Ratan Tata and Azim Premji on the professional circuits.They know the ground realities having come up the ladder and can equate and take big decisions that swing many a fortunes either ways while chatting on the streets or in board rooms ,The sharp awareness and risk taking appetite is something to watch.
If we create these abilities in school right from start by allowing our children to explore and experience the ways of life rather than grind in the class rooms, it would help them deliver better as an adult, in my opinion.If the teacher or guru is a good leader he will inspire his team and create new leaders.If you keep sheltering the children under your wings all through they will never be able to Inspire anybody else as they themselves will look up to some guidance always.Lets introduce such lessons at the early stages than at the MBA levels as it becomes more practical and the child can be moulded better when young.Would you Bungee jump? Would you sky dive?Would you walk into the forest when its a no moon day?Get the fear out of your mind and try to explore these avenues to start building up your mental resilience and aptitude.This will define your altitude in life.

We are living every day of our life and the days pass by like quick fire and you don't get any time to really step back and ponder ,'Have you lived every day of your life?",
In 24 hours , you travel 3 hours,eat for 2 hours, work for 9 hours,sleep for 8 hours,and balance time try to juggle with the electronic world of TV, DVD'S, mobiles, i pads and the likes.Was that quality time?What did you get for your self?Daily wages, a few appreciations and a lot of depreciation's at work,and tons of stress to carry over to the next day.The baggage becomes so heavy that you cannot let go and ultimately you get jammed under the weight.Your health goes for a toss and all those spicy things you always wished start getting back at you .Be it food, adventure,or fun.Then it starts dawning on you,if I had not done this then and if I could have avoided this or done that earlier etc etc!!
The dusk in anyone's life comes in sooner or later.Let it dawn on you that the quality of time spent with your near and dear ones is crucial and life is not all about money and show and glamor.It is short lived.The window dressings and the fancy curtains fall and the darkness behind will be revealed.Control on your mind and thoughts is very critical.Let not thoughts control you, you control them.Don't be the thought and hold back your horses when the femme fatal leads you on.In life these are the most deceptive and destructive stages that make you divert from the main track.As you have a balanced meal and everything in moderation is good is what is said, the same way we must live life.Enjoy every day to the fullest in what ever you do and don't wait till dusk arrives because it leads you into the dead of the night as well, apart from a sunny tomorrow, if we are lucky.God is great.Bless us all.

judgement day
Going for a routine checkup at a doctors place and if you were told to conduct a CT scan or an mri keeping in mind the previous history of a patient,what would go on in the mind of this person.His BP goes up as as if there is going to be an explosion soon.Then one goes and gets the tests done with all the pre checks etc and then told to wait for a report that would be given to him the next day.One waits for the call the next day and since it doesn't come calls up the laboratory to find the report still being studied.The next day committed as the day of the report.When the whole of the next day goes and still no call from the lab,one gets paranoid as to why your CT scan is one of those cases that is taking over 48 hrs to get a result with all the best of devices etc at hand.You are told to wait for another day and then mid day on day 3 you get a call stating report is ready , please collect the same.When you ask them how much is the total to be paid , a voice on the other side states,you come here and we will tell you!!!!!
Now you reach there to get the report in great anxiety not knowing the outcome as that would be told to you by the consulting physician of yours when you meet him.Another wait!!!BP goes up still further.This is the most frustrating time one can have.When you get your hands on the report and open to decipher the conclusions.....................the ECG time is almost there.The systolic and diastolic peaks and troughs have embarrassed even Mt.Everest by now.The conclusion post a 3 day wait is...................it appears that further invasive procedures are required to validate the findings of the expensive CT scan results??????Now , what does a poor person do in such a case?Keep spoiling his health every day just by pondering over what next and how much of a hole it burns in his pocket or take his chances with god's will and destiny and survive his next days with a powerful will and positive attitude.
The way one see hospitals, labs flocked with people undergoing so many tests and checkups ,the medical fraternity is minting money and new opportunities and partnerships emerging that ensure every link in the diagnostic chain reaps a good harvest at the expense of guinea pigs like us.I have come across people with serious disease and fighting it out , surviving with great determinations inspite of going against the recommendations of the medical fraternity.The decision of should you or should you not take the next steps lies with us.The medical" business" really keeps you guessing what is really a genuine requirement and what is not.The medical insurance companies, pharmacist, the pharma companies, the doctors , the labs every one in this chain make hay while we get hit.One must think over these situations as time goes on.The high donations required to be paid to get a medical admission is probably one of the reasons all doctors or say most of them look at a quick return on investment.This is dangerous and if i get real high quality genuine service and diagnosis then i am atleast in safe hands.But after paying through the nose you get treated so shabbily.
JUDGEMENT DAY IS IMPERATIVE.TAKE YOUR CALL.

skoda 2-mission impossible
When the dealer network had to be established,we had to ensure we create enough confidence in the possible candidates to assure them that the money they invest into an unknown brand would fetch them the returns.Painting on an invisible canvas with colors that were nonexistent and projecting Monalisa- the ultimate work of art was a task cutout for me.I had been in this industry, but earning the trust of my business partners who were ready to invest millions only based on your word was a big responsibility.The conviction in the business plans presented were actually as shaky as a multi -storyed building on one pillar.But, i had made up my mind and decided to stick my neck out.I was questioned on one occasion about the selection of a particular partner inspite of his credibility and business performance with top brands.This same partner 12years later is the best and most efficient and supportive business partner Skoda has even today.
Then came my own teams that had to be handpicked to first work in a place like Aurangabad,then ensure that they remain motivated to work with passion at salaries which were not at par with the best in the industry.We knew we had to earn every penny,spend nothing and yet create miracles to make this brand visible pan India.Here the business partners, who had more at stake, really helped in salvaging many a situations that were crucial for this.Had they not supported,probably we would have possibly had another story.
When recognition started coming confidence was seen at all places.Prague also realized what India can be.However delay in decisions,priorities towards other markets,change in the management at the HQ kept us guessing and the wait was endless.To set up processes,figure out training modules and compete with organized players with 200%support from the parent company was a challenge.Budgets were presented as if it came from the wallets of individuals than marketing budgets from companies. When we tried to make the best of the available resources and by chance exceed the amounts even by a few thousand, questions poured in.Today,they splurge 100 folds only based on the strong foundations created a decade ago. All my team members today are well set in major automotive giants at key positions and I ma proud of them.They have earned every bit of it.
The Czech and the German cultural rock and roll with India was an experience in itself.With the only night life being dark dimly lit roads of Aurangabad, it was a real test for these guys.Beer a plenty and work the only option, things kept rolling.The chairman being amazed at seeing an elephant on the road, the service guys popping out of the car windows to click snaps of cows and pigs on the road were a great sight.Traveling across the length and breadth of India with them almost made me a tour guide ready for my next job as a COX and KINGS representative.I czeched out my English and almost spoke czech.Found out one thing for sure that only if we valued time and had the discipline,Indians would have ruled the world.
The only sad moment i had was when the unwanted politics that i got dragged into due to political equations across the borders in the HQ.When it was time, i challenged the wisdom and intent of my expat superiors where i felt it was needed.This took them by surprise as they least expected it to come from an Indian.When they had no options , politics was well played where I can never win unfortunately.Its just not my cup of tea.I moved on with my career to the next destination with a very heavy heart.But as i always state --the best years of my life were at Skoda.I use to breathe,drink, sleep, eat,and play SKODA.It still runs in my blood. Nazdravi.
Then came my own teams that had to be handpicked to first work in a place like Aurangabad,then ensure that they remain motivated to work with passion at salaries which were not at par with the best in the industry.We knew we had to earn every penny,spend nothing and yet create miracles to make this brand visible pan India.Here the business partners, who had more at stake, really helped in salvaging many a situations that were crucial for this.Had they not supported,probably we would have possibly had another story.
When recognition started coming confidence was seen at all places.Prague also realized what India can be.However delay in decisions,priorities towards other markets,change in the management at the HQ kept us guessing and the wait was endless.To set up processes,figure out training modules and compete with organized players with 200%support from the parent company was a challenge.Budgets were presented as if it came from the wallets of individuals than marketing budgets from companies. When we tried to make the best of the available resources and by chance exceed the amounts even by a few thousand, questions poured in.Today,they splurge 100 folds only based on the strong foundations created a decade ago. All my team members today are well set in major automotive giants at key positions and I ma proud of them.They have earned every bit of it.
The Czech and the German cultural rock and roll with India was an experience in itself.With the only night life being dark dimly lit roads of Aurangabad, it was a real test for these guys.Beer a plenty and work the only option, things kept rolling.The chairman being amazed at seeing an elephant on the road, the service guys popping out of the car windows to click snaps of cows and pigs on the road were a great sight.Traveling across the length and breadth of India with them almost made me a tour guide ready for my next job as a COX and KINGS representative.I czeched out my English and almost spoke czech.Found out one thing for sure that only if we valued time and had the discipline,Indians would have ruled the world.

right to confront
The teen ages are the most critical times for any boy or girl in this one lifetime.This is a phase where so many things,the so called mysteries, are unfolding and the results may effect the entire lifetime.Then based on the society and the parental approach the life of the child takes a new turn.He or she faces peer pressures and the most critical being ,having a girlfriend or a boy friend.Now this knowingly or unknowingly the child wants to be part of the world and show that he or she is equal or better than the peers at large. The ego, the immaturity and the most important lack of counseling /guidance from the matured community takes a toll.
The parents are either too busy, or presume that all is well, do not take time off to spend with the fast growing kid and hence invariably many errors take place.If the situations don't take critical turns then fatal consequences can be avoided.If not ragging, rape, kidnap,teen pregnancies and undesirable health hazards are seen.This destroys the child's future and must be stopped and or controlled.The female population is more susceptible and must be educated to handle these situations more smartly and strongly.
Take an example of purely selecting the right partner for the future.Child infatuations are the most hazardous.Then the right for parents to meet the friends and peers so as to assess them and create an environment of trust and honesty is crucial.The parents must be friends with the kids and the best way is to create enough confidence in your kids to make them open up and discuss key issues they face.This will certainly help them overcome stressful situations and not face untoward incidences in their lives.The exposure nowadays to unwanted violence, sex and serials on TV and movies is a big disaster.It educates but very conveniently the bad things are absorbed faster by the gray cells.Devil prevails till God bails us out.if the child is guided through this phase on the right path with enough assurance by his friendly parents ,the teenagers will be a happier lot.
These and many more things are critical for the better future of our young generation.Hope this could be a good start to continue a topic that might be useful for one and all.

At long last there seems to be hope for UP after the "SON"RISE.Akhilesh Singh Yadav, environmental engineer from Australia, who speaks English and has a calm and composed nature and personality that gives assurance to the public of UP has taken charge as the Chief Minister.His interview on TV and his thoughts show a good ray of hope.If Nitish Kumar could turn around Bihar then UP will be the next to happen.
The crime scene, job opportunities, infrastructure and above all the racists divide should all be revamped and controlled to make that the best state in the country.If that happens we will have more examples like what Modi did for Gujarat .
If all such like minds get together and forget the political differences this country can rock.

value of life
Tick Tock ,the clock goes non stop and so does life till it hits the last speed breaker.Every one around you is on high alert and things turn sombre.The last minutes and the light at the other end of the tunnel is beginning to appear and one knows that its there.The soul breathes a sigh of relief and is liberated at last.
The wealth, the name and fame, the awards and rewards, the fun and sorrow all left behind for others to take care till they depart.The people connected with you as your near and dear ones, some for professional gains, some for social networking and others for just hanging around being part of the whole while you exist.
Then comes the time to remember the departed soul and the value it created in terms of human wealth.Did the soul really create enough happiness and cheer to keeps its memories alive? Was that soul just superficial under a garb or really genuine and selfless in its pursuit for peace and happiness?How do people measure this?We do the formalities of remembering the soul till day 13 and thereafter its plastered to the walls and probably left till next year where one has to complete the rituals again.We do love everybody till they are around us in person ,physically.Once departed , all we have are the memories which too fade off a few months or years later depending on the strong will of the people or the contribution one has made in this life.We are just passengers in this journey called life taking a train and alighting at our destinations when the time comes.If we make this world a better place while we are here for others to live in when we depart , then the departed soul really would be remembered for ever.
Value of life priceless.other wise it would be just a few to a few million dollars of materialistic wealth created which is useless after you depart.So create value for others in this life and make your life priceless.

perceptions
We have a huge number of foreigners of various origins swarming into India, be it for tourism, work, transit etc. They come with various mindsets and some with a deep study about what to expect when then land at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Terminal, Mumbai.The biggest shocker is of course the 1.2 billion population and counting.You see more heads bobbing on the streets near the runway than the airstrip.
The doors of the aircraft open and you walk out into humid conditions with perhaps the smell of the soil of India.Welcome to the land of opportunities.Catch the transit coach and enter the arrival lounge to complete formalities and land at the baggage conveyors.The penguins( custom officials in white uniform)all over the place with a roving eye doing the duty as is in other parts of the world.Once through you are on the streets of Mumbai, the cabs and trying to avoid the decibels of various languages, horns etc that may sound like heavy metal.Those who come a land of Rock and roll must get familiar with this during their stay here.
This is just a trailor of a movie that has lots to show and experience.
But the visitors who I welcome with open arms with a request not to underestimate India inspite of all its shortcomings.Its a place to be experienced and then spoken about.Passing judgements , sitting in the ivory towers , thousands of miles away,far from ground zero is definitely not the right thing to do.We have elephants with mahouts as well as missiles and warships with latest technologies.We have a tradition that is older than many nations who didn't exist at that time.We have Indians who have contributed to the economy of other developed nations."When in Rome , do as the Romans do'"thus goes the saying.The same applies to India.When in India be an INDIAN.Don't just get surprised by what you see , feel, eat but be amazed!!The unity in diversity of the worlds largest democracy is unbelievable.One can GO all over the world and come back here to live and absorb the highs and lows this country has to offer .Yes, we need to learn a lot from others and will do so some point of time.But, remember, Changing the mind of a billion plus people in a democratic format is not easy.Try ruling India even for a day ,and one would know.Inspite of billions stashed away overseas in black money, India still has enough to withstand any crisis that otherwise would make any stock exchange do a Yo -Yo.
Those who detested India, are queuing up to invest and make money here.Times change and so do the people. India is rocking and will continue to do so.Come join the rockband and have fun.This is the place to be.Open up the windows of your close minds and experience the bungee jump into the place called I N D I A.

pa(y)rent
Many a times nowadays especially, one finds the children disowning their parents, putting them up in a sanitorium as they age,treating them like burden.
Look back and see what they have gone through to bring you up.Inspite of all that they have done we treat them like unwanted elements!!!Once this generation reaches that stage they will probably get paid in the came coin.Taking care of the newborn and its tantrums as one grows up is a thankless job, for one is too small to remember and neither is the memory so strong to connect emotionally for years.In the current generation its infact deteriorating by the day.No one cares.Life is moving very fast and every one wants to take the shortest cut to the so called happiness and independence devoid of excess baggage.
To re-member ,means to rejoin and this is my humble request to one and all who have delinked from their loved ones and their dear parents who may be unwanted.Please support them when they need it most and be with them morally and mentally if not physically to ensure they live their last part of the life in a peaceful way.
Its Pay-rent( parent)time,for what they have done to you .Atleast that way you will be able to return a small portion of your dues to them. Had it not been for them ,you wouldn't exist.

arranged marriage
The rituals and ceremonies for arranged marriages done in India and many other countries is on for centuries.It seems a bit odd but to raise some fundamental queries about the whole process and debate about why not every individual get a chance to seek or choose his or her own partner .Alternately even decide upon if or not to get into the long term commitments of marriage which is an institution in its self.
On one hand we teach right from childhood not to talk to strangers and on this day we ask the same person to even sleep with the unknown partner under the title" arranged Marriage". The entire life is at stake with one move.Then we have the ceremony that starts all this which clearly states "lady on display" ,the suitors please come see, evaluate and have the right to reject.This is very unfair and unfortunate.Why do the male egos prevail?Imagine the state of a girl who gets repeatedly rejected on frivolous grounds who could end up in a depression.
Every time one needs to deck up and present ones self like you have a new product that has arrived or an old product in new packaging.Very crude and sad.Even to sell the "item on display" which i feel sad to even quote, the family members go flat out to add spice and ensure that this is the best thing that is going to happen to the suitor ever.What can one know in a single meeting?Matching of the horoscopes?Matching of stars and times of birth?With all this still nothing can be assured as marriages are made in heaven and only God almighty knows that.If one gets a chance to spend time on a mental level to adjust and adapt and try to match ones wavelength with the other , maybe there is a better chance, who knows?

Quivering Aspen
The Aspen tree, bright and golden leaves are known for quivering.They are so nimble that they move with the slightest whiff of air or simply tremble by the movements in the air however small they may be.It is classical and characteristic.
It could be compared with the lives of many people who live in fear and shake and worry at every small incident that happens to them.When the D day comes they quiver and fall to the ground equally fast to pile up amongst the other thousand who lie on the ground.Life is a breeze, it can be soft whiff or fresh air, it could be a warm or cold gush of air or an unwanted bad stench filled experience.Its how we stand up to it that matters.If we want to hang on and tremble , be an aspen leaf.If you wish to stand up and face the gusty winds then be different and upright as a pine or rosewood tree.As the tree experiences the cold, the heat (the pain & the anguish) and the cool temperatures where one experiences peace, so does mankind.It stands up to all kinds of weathers and those who give up fall to the ground in a heap.
Why not stand up and face the challenges in life boldly and go down fighting if it comes to that , rather than whimper and tremble at every point.
