Crab Club

The crab mentality. What a phrase! Its so apt in India and maybe similar to some extent in other countries ,but prevalent on a large scale here.(Self assessment).People stand up and claim many things about themselves.Self belief .But if they stand in front of a mirror, the mirror will crack out of sheer embarrassment. They have such inflated egos, misconceptions of self and float around as if they are the highest helium gas reserves in the universe.

When in an organisation, people serve for a few years, some have experience from elsewhere and join them, and some are freshers .When it comes to performance evaluations, result oriented individuals need not even speak as the outcome speaks for itself. The measures, process and a fair and logical evaluation done over 12 months with midterm reviews obviously set a clear trend about which direction ones career is progressing. Moreover , when in open forums you are asked"Who amongst you aspire to be a team lead or a Manager" and no one volunteers or expresses his desire then the options are clear. So when the time comes, the management takes a decision , obviously not in favour of the so called "helium family"which then immediately loose the gas .

The immediate reaction,"what does the management think, we don't exist?".Why should they elevate Mr."x" and "what will they do if I am not around?".No one is indispensable and that is clear. No organisation works because of a single individual. It's a team. You could rock the boat , not dream of sinking it.In fact I believe, shedding of dead wood makes the tree lighter, brighter and smart.Even the boat that anyone wishes to rock, becomes faster , leaner and having offloaded the excess baggage senses a new direction and a course. But crabs as we are, we won't allow the person elevated to have a smooth run and neither want self to move and add value.Just create the barriers and hurdles trying to make simple things complicated. That where the litmus test of the new  leader or Manager starts.

Its like putting all crabs in a Glass jar and watching them pull each other so no one reaches the top.
Sad but true.Such cheap and low mentality people should be put in boiling hot water and watch them go orange, when they can be clipped with clippers and juiced out with their so called phony shells and dumped in a garbage can.Taste not guaranteed, however.
